Title: Hector – Badge of Carnage: We Negotiate with Terrorists
Developer: Telltale Games
Downloadable on Windows XP, Vista or 7 and Mac
You are Inspector Detective Hector, a portly badass Brit with an attitude. You are the only one who can negotiate with a terrorist in order to save the lives of the hostages and possibly save the dwindling numbers of the Clappers Wreake police force.
The game itself is fairly simple, click and double click to interact with characters and objects in order to advance each scene. There are objects in the game that you need to collect and combine to complete tasks; choose the wrong ones, and you get an earful of colorful insults by Hector. There is a help tab that will either give you subtle hints or an almost complete walkthrough depending on how challenging you want the gameplay.
The animation combined with the visual jokes and dialogue is sheer genius. The characters speak in various British dialects, and the use of slang may be confusing to those who aren’t familiar; however the game designers were kind enough to show subtitles, and you’ll basically get the gist of what’s going on. The characters are outrageously hilarious. My favorites besides Hector would have to be the morbidly obese prostitute with halitosis and the owner of the porno shop. I could see this game being made into a film with dreamcasting of Mark Addy or Nick Frost as Hector.
Telltalegames.com has 2 more Hector games ready to be released in the upcoming months and I can’t wait to see what they come up with next.
