The sensual sounds of Letting Up Despite Great Faults are back with the release of their forthcoming EP, ‘Paper Crush’, due out on August 2nd via Old Flame Records. The Los Angeles group is the electro-based sonic diary of founding member, Mike Lee and also includes members Kent Zambrana, Chris Gregory, Matt Salas and Caitlin Dwyer. The band first released the ‘Movement’ EP, back in 2006 and the EP’s tunes were featured on NPR and “One Tree Hill.” Three years later, Letting Up Despite Great Faults dropped their self-title full-length album via New Words. The nine-track album showcases the band’s unique sound, which is compiled of tender and uncanny vocals and tranquil beats.
The sound of Letting Up Despite Great Faults can be further solidified with the release of the track, “Teenage Tide” off of ‘Paper Crush’. Following similar rhythmic and vocal techniques as heard on their 2009 release, the indie band is aware of their musical niche and don’t appear to be relocating anytime soon, which is a move we condone. “Teenage Tide” features raspy vocals besides an upbeat tempo. The odd pairing does well for the group by further dramatizing the already delicate vocals. Along with “Teenage Tide,” the ‘Paper Crush’ track listing includes the tunes, “Repeating Hearts,” “Sophia In Gold,” “I Feel You Happen” and “Aurora.”
Our predictions for ‘Paper Crush’ are compiled of all positives. Letting Up Despite Great Faults commands attention with their confident sound and this attractive quality will have our ‘Paper Crush’ focus locked in all summer long.
