CinemaBlend via Deadline is reporting that a new “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” script is being written, meaning that a new “TMNT” movie is underway.
According to the articles, screenwriters Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec have been tapped to write the script. Appelbaum and Nemec have already finished work on “Mission: Impossible–Ghost Protocol” before being tapped to write “TMNT” They’ve also finished work on the rewrite of “Now You See Me”, which will be directed by Louis Leterrier. “TMNT” will be one of their few film scripts; the writing team has only made their jump to film writing fairly recently, having done a lot of work for television such as writing for Alias, Happy Town, and Fastlane.
I was a huge “TMNT” fan in the ’90s, and I still have a soft spot for those early ’90s live-action films. But I’m not sure anyone has done true justice to the characters since the ’80s and ’90s. Or, if someone has, they haven’t been accepted well, for instance, the darker animated “TMNT” movie made in 2007. To be blunt, I’m a bit burnt out on the idea of rebooting the turtles. Just let them stay in the ’90s, where they shone the brightest.
What do you think? How do you feel about the turtles coming back to the theaters? Sound off below.
