J.J. Abrams’ film “Super 8” is easily one of the most awaited–if not the most awaited film of this summer. And, according to Rotten Tomatoes, the wait has paid off.
According to the site, the film has gotten a critical rating of 83%, and audiences have given it an 85%. Critics have said the film harkens back to the late ’70s and early ’80s to the early Spielberg films, has emotional depth, legitimate scares, and a fun sense of adventure that reminds people of classic kid-led films like “The Goonies”. (incidentally, Spielberg produced “Super 8”).
Some critics thought the film was too much of a ride down Memory Lane however. One critic, Tom Charity for CNN.com, even went so far as to call the film an “imitation”.
But what do you think about “Super 8”? Are you among the throngs of people who say that the film is a godsend among a possibly over-bloated summer? Did it remind you of your childhood watching “Close Encounters of the Third Kind”? Or did the film seem like a pale reminder of those types of films? And do you think this film makes J.J. Abrams one of the unstoppable directors? Share your thoughts with us: make sure to leave your opinions and mini-reviews in the comments section below.
