‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’ actor Charlie Day is currently in talks to join the cast of Guillermo Del Toro’s upcoming robot vs. alien action movie ‘Pacific Rim,’ Slashfilm is reporting. The actor, who will next be seen in the upcoming comedy ‘Horrible Bosses,’ is being considered for the role of a professor. If cast, Day would star alongside another FX star, Charlie Hunnan of ‘Songs of Anarchy.’
Hunnan, who signed onto ‘Pacific Rim’ in May 2011, is set to play a former pilot who is forced to help save the world after it’s threatened by aliens. The alien race wants to attack either side of the Pacific Ocean, but humans fight back by creating and piloting giant robots, including Gundam and Evangelion.
Del Toro signed onto direct ‘Pacific Rim,’ in which Idris Elba is also rumored to be up for a role in, shortly after Universal decided not to pick up his R-rated version of ‘At the Mountains of Madness.’ ‘Pacific Rim,’ which was penned by screenwriter Travis Beacham and will be Del Toro’s first directorial effort since 2008’s ‘Hellboy: The Golden Army,’ is expected to begin filming in Fall 2011. The sci-fi film is slated to have a Summer 2013 release.
