Screenwriter Michael Chabon has been hired to write the script for the upcoming Disney movie ‘Magic Kingdom,’ which will be based on the resort’s flagship theme park, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The Pulitzer Prize-winning author initially spoke to the movie’s director, Jon Favreau, in March 2011 before he met with Disney executives.

The details about the story are being kept secret. However, Chabon, who is reportedly writing a Broadway play based on ‘Dumbo,’ was hired to rewrite the script, which was originally written by ‘Battlestar Galactica’s Ron Moore, when Favreau was hired as the director. But the scribe of next year’s ‘John Carter’ (Disney dropped ‘of Mars’ from the title to distance itself from its recent flop, ‘Mars Needs Moms’) was seen spending time at the Anaheim park with Favreau.

Favreau told The Hollywood Reporter that he headed to Magic Kingdom with Chabon, who wrote Disney’s action retelling of ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’ because “I do my research on Disney because people are so connected to all of these archetypes.” He added that everyone who grew up with the Disney characters feels the same about them, and to have the opportunity to work on a project about the theme park “is amazing.”
