Relativity Media’s President of Worldwide Production, Tucker Tooley, and Edward R. Pressman, producer of “The Crow” franchise, announced today that attached Alex Tse, the scribe behind “Watchmen”, to write the remake of “The Crow”.
The remake will be directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (“28 Weeks Later”), and the remake will be what the press release calls “a gritty reboot” of character Eric Draven, who returns from death as the gothic hero The Crow in order to avenge his and his wife’s murders. Bradley Cooper (“Limitless”) is attached to star as Draven/The Crow.
As stated above, Tse was responsible for the script behind “Watchmen” along with fellow screenwriter David Hayter. I’m sure there might be some that are crossing themselves right now because of how the film adaptation of “Watchmen” turned out, but don’t blame Tse for the mess; seeing how stylized Zack Snyder is a director, it’s hard to say where Snyder’s influence ends and Tse’s (and Hayter’s) begins.
The remake is based on the 1994 film adaptation of the comic book series and comic strip by James O’Barr. “The Crow” is set to be released to theaters sometime in 2013.
