An Angry Birds movie is reportedly in the works. Fans of the wildly popular mobile app, from the gaming company Rovio, can expect to see the miniature little birds fly onto the big screen with the help of former Marvel Studios executive David Meisel, who is now on board to produce the future project. Here is the official announcement:
“Rovio has already had amazing success and established a great brand with Angry Birds,” Maisel said. “The business model, intellectual properties and the franchise potential of Angry Birds give Rovio the most exciting prospects I have seen in the entertainment business since Marvel in 2003.”
Currently the heads behind the Angry Birds movie are working on a script, and seem to be planning how they’ll bring the app characters to life as a blockbuster hit. This is going to be hard to do, but according to Rovio CEO Mikael Hed, the company is aware of the risks.
“We are working on the mythology with the movie script and we don’t want to shape the mythology too far until we have that one nail in place,” Hed said. “We’ve seen too many movies based on games that have not performed well.”
