The Hollywood Reporter has had a question-and-answer session with Carson Daly, the host of NBC’s singing competition show “The Voice.” In the interview, Daly talks about the plans for the upcoming season.
When asked about whether the winner, Javier Colon, was the right choice, Daly said, “I don’t think they could have made a wrong choice. Our whole goal was to put the best artist on stage all year long and by the time we got to our top 16, you’re really looking at strong artists. I think they definitely got it right.”
As for next season (which will see the return of star judges Christina Aguilera, Adam Levine, Cee Lo Green, and Blake Shelton), Daly said the show has learned from trial-by-error. “We’ve been taking notes all along,” he said. “…One [note they have] is expanding, but not too much. With success in network TV, often they overdo it once they’ve got a hit. They tend to just whore it out, if you will. We’re going to have longer blind auditions. We only had two episodes of it this season and all of a sudden we were into the battle rounds. I think there will be at least four weeks of our blind auditions so that people can really sink their teeth into that discovery process.”
