With ‘The Twilight Saga’ movie series coming to an end, Stephenie Meyer is now taking on the role of producer. The author has signed onto produce the upcoming independent romantic comedy ‘Austenland,’ Reelzchannel is reporting. The film will mark the first time Meyer will produce a movie that isn’t based on a book she has written.
‘Austenland,’ which is based on the novel of the same name by Shannon Hale, is scheduled to begin filming later this week in the U.K. The movie will star Keri Russell, JJ Feild of ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’ fame and ‘Flight of the Conchords’ Bret McKenzie. The comedy will be directed by Jerusha Hess, who is known for writing ‘Napoleon Dynamite.’
There’s no official synopsis for the movie yet. But the novel follows Jane, a young New Yorker who can’t find the right man because she’s obsessed with Colin Firth’s portrayal of Mr. Darcy in the BBC adaptation of ‘Pride and Prejudice.’ However, one of Jane’s wealthy relatives gives her a trip to an English resort, named Austenland, that caters to women obsessed with Jane Austen. While at the resort, Jane wonders if she’ll finally meet a man who lives up to her fantasies of Mr. Darcy, or if she should give up her dream once and for all.
Russell is rumored to play Jane, while Feild is believed to play a Mr. Darcy actor at Austenland. McKenzie is expected to play the man Jane’s supposed to be with, but who she looks over because he’s not Mr. Darcy.
