Karen Olivo has been cast as a new lawyer in a series regular role in the upcoming second season of NBC’s ‘Harry’s Law,’ Entertainment Weekly is reporting. The next season of the legal drama, which was created by David E. Kelley, will follow Kathy Bates’ title character, defense attorney Harry Korn, as she starts landing larger cases as her reputation grows. Olivo’s character will help Harry with her caseload.
Olivo is known for originating the role of Vanessa in the 2008 Broadway production of ‘In the heights.’ She also won the Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical in 2009 for her portrayal of Anita in the revival of ‘West Side Story.’ She made headlines for the win, as she is the first person to win a Tony for the production. Her appearance in the production also made headlines as it was cut short after she was involved in an accident that broke her foot.
Of the accident, Olivo said “(The door) clipped me on the should as I was in full stride. Then I put my foot down, but it folded under me and I went down on the ground. I got up and fell again. Then I just crawled offstage, in full view of the audience.” After the accident, she landed a multi-episode arc on ‘The Good Wife,’ where she played wealthy law student Giada Cabrini.
