The cast of Quentin Tarantino’s “Django Unchained” is shaping up! Deadline is reporting that Kevin Costner has been tapped to play Ace Woody, a slave driver who fights slaves to the death. According to Deadline, Woody is “the sadistic trainer of male fighting slaves who entertain the white patrons of [club] Candyland as well as the female slaves who are forced to be prostitutes.”

Costner, if his negotiations go through, will play alongside Leonardo DiCaprio (who will be Calvin Candie, the owner of the club and ranch in the film) as the villains of the film which Tarantino is calling a “Southern,” a film that has western sensibilities but is set in the deep south during the time of slavery. The film will be shot in a Sergio Leone “Spaghetti Western”-style film.

The rest of the cast includes Jamie Foxx as the lead character, Samuel L. Jackson and Christoph Waltz.

“Django Unchained” is the story of a slave-turned-bounty hunter who is going to take on the slave owner villains in order to save his slave wife. The Weinstein Company will have the film go into production in early fall.

What do you think about Costner, who was recently cast as Jonathan Kent in “Man of Steel,” playing an evil guy? Sound off in the comments section below.
