The always informative website Slashfilm just released an update on the ‘National Lampoon’s Vacation’ reboot that is in the works. According to the site, script writers John Francis Daley of ‘Freaks and Geeks’ fame, and Jonathan Goldstein (Drake & Josh) just finished up on their second draft. The site also reports that New Line is now seeking a director for the project, with ‘Anger Management’ director Peter Segal possibly in mind.
The Griswold family reboot, that could take the title ‘Vacation’, is rumored to zone in on the young Rusty Griswold, all grown up with his own hilarious family adventure to the notorious Wally’s World. The beloved family spot that is about to close for good. Although the goofy Clark Griswold, played by Chevy Chase, and his patient wife, Ellen (Beverly D’Angelo), won’t be at the center of the ‘Vacation’ plot, they will be making an appearance alongside their son, who is described by Goldstein as an “everyman” type that is “goodhearted,” and “maybe a little bit of a doofus.”
It would be funnier to see National Lampoon’s Christmas be remade, but a ‘Vacation’ reboot from the hilarious and quirky duo of Daley and Goldstein should be funny. We’ll keep you posted.
