British television writer-producer Drew Pearce has been hired by Paramount to write the film adaptation of the DC Comic series “The Mighty”, Variety is reporting. The studio acquired the rights to the comic in early June 2011, and Chris Bender and JC Spink have signed on to produce the film through their Benderspink banner. Jake Weiner has also signed on to produce the movie.
“The Mighty” is an original graphic novel that was written by Peter J. Tomasi and Keith Champagne. It tells the story of Alpha-One, the world’s first and most powerful superhero, who has also been a force of good. He has been supported by Section Omega, an entire police force devoted to assisting him on his journey to secure justice. A cop who saved by Alpha One as a child has uncovered his hero’s dark past. This revelation will put lead them down a collision course of ordinary man versus superhero.
Pearce signing onto to pen the film adaptation of “The Mighty”, which is being set up by Mary Parent and Cale Boyter at their Disruption Entertainment banner, comes after he produced such television shows as ‘No Heroics,’ ‘Lip Service’ and ‘Damage Control.’ He was also tapped to script another upcoming superhero film, ‘Iron Man 3.’
