Comic Book Resources has posted Warner Bros. first look at Henry Cavill as Superman in “Man of Steel”. The image, which you can view here or below this post, has Cavill’s Superman busting through what looks like a safe.
Disclaimer: I’ll say up front that I’m not the biggest Superman fan, but I do have an affinity for the character. With that said, I’m cautiously intrigued by Cavill as Superman.
Some people in the CBR forums have said that they think Cavill’s hair is too poofy to be Superman. I’m just perplexed at the lack of the cowlick/curl. I think that’s probably what’s throwing a few people off; you can clearly see all of Cavill’s forehead, and it’s just weird seeing Superman without that one piece of manicured hair in front of his face. However, maybe, since this Superman movie is supposed to be a more realistic reboot in the vein of the Nolan-verse “Batman” movies, perhaps it was felt that the cowlick wasn’t realistic in a way. I mean, who would really keep a cowlick in front of their face if they have the means to slick their hair back and use those means regularly?
Other than that, I don’t really see much of a problem with this first look. Cavill was picked to bring an edge to Superman, and he’s doing just what he’s being paid to do in this picture.
