According to MSNBC, Facebook is now closing the accounts of prison inmates after a convicted child molester was caught viewing the pages of his victim from behind bars. News of this came from authorities and Facebook itself Tuesday.
The site has shut down the accounts of at least two inmates and, according to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, officials are currently working to see what other accounts have been seen in prison.
The corrections officials officially announced their partnership with the social networking site Monday after receiving hundreds of complaints from victims who were contacted by jailed inmates. One of those complaints includes the victim of the child molester, whose MySpace and Facebook pages were viewed by the inmate and later had drawings of her mailed to her family by the inmate.
Most of California’s prisoners do not get internet access, but some have been able to access Facebook through contraband cell phones.
