Colorado Springs police have announced that they have received credible information that the Dougherty siblings, who are wanted for crimes in Florida and Georgia, have been spotted in Colorado, CBS News is reporting. But Sgt. Steven Noblitt added that it hasn’t yet been confirmed if 21-year-old Ryan Edward Dougherty, 26-year-old Dylan Dougherty Stanley and 29-year-old Lee Grace Dougherty are indeed in the area.
The FBI said the people matching the siblings’ description were in a small white Subaru Impreza with a stolen Texas license plate. The suspects were last seen in a 2006 white Impreza.
The possible sighting occurred around 1:30 pm on August 9 near Interstate 25 north of downtown Colorado Springs. The three may be headed to a campground or rural area to escape detection, Dave Joly, the spokesman for the FBI’s Denver office, has said. He added that the three who were spotted made a cash purchase at an outdoor store, but it’s not known what they bought.
The search for the Dougherty siblings began on August 2, when they were suspected of firing at least 20 shots at a Florida officer. The officer tried to pull them over for driving of speeds up to 100 mph during a chase. About three hours later, three people wearing masks robbed a bank about 210 miles north, in Valdosta, Georgia.
