There hasn’t been much news about the biopic “J. Edgar” in a long time, but finally, Entertainment Weekly has the first look at the film. In the pictures posted by EW, DiCaprio is in costume as J. Edgar Hoover and taking direction from Clint Eastwood.

EW also has some insight behind the movie from the film’s screenwriter Dustin Lance Black (“Milk”) and Eastwood. “I started to become curious about the ‘why’ [about why Hoover became a tyrant],” said Black. “He did wonderful things for his country, but why did he end up doing so many things that were heinous or harmful? I think it was all in the name of trying to fill that void, where love goes, with public admiration.”

“Well, I grew up with Hoover in the ’30s and ’40s as the G-man,” said Eastwood. “He was always the authority, always sort of the top cop…When you talk to FBI agents now who’ve worked with him, they all have different opinions of him.”

“J. Edgar” tells the story about the first director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation J. Edgar Hoover, who became the stern face of the FBI and law enforcement but also held secrets that could have ruined him in the public eye. The film will be released November 9, 2011.
