Every single Marvel and movie-going fan out there have been licking their lips in anticipation over the inevitable release for the Joss Whedon-directed film “The Avengers.” Finally we get to see the likes of Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Bruce Banner/The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Hawkman (Jeremy Renner), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Tony Stark/Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Steve Rogers/Captain America (Chris Evans) and S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) in action. Unfortunately none of the footage that we all saw at today’s D23 Expo is not available online at the moment, so instead I’ll describe what was shown so far.
*Nick Fury (Jackson) is talking to the now-captured Loki (Tom Hiddelston) who’s trapped in a large glass encasing of some form. When he proceeds to step closer to the window Mr. Fury talks to him about what a bad choice that would be, showing that he would drop over three thousand feet onto the ground if he even so much as touched the glass covering of his new jail cell. He gives a crooked smile, giving Fury all sorts of hell for not taking the Tesseract from him. As he’s speaking the rest of the Avengers are sitting in their headquarters in another part of the premises which includes Black Widow, Captain America, Iron Man, Bruce Banner and Thor who’s soaking in every word Loki says.
*A shot is shown of the Stark Industries headquarters in New York as a helicopter flies towards it. Who knows who’s in that helicopter, but it’s safe to assume a couple of Avengers could be in there.
*Various action shots are shown including Thor holding up his mighty hammer in the middle of the woods, Captain America jumping out of a plane and Hawkman taking aim and firing on some bad guys. During this half of the footage sequence it’s cut to be like the teaser trailer that we’ll hopefully see soon. While this footage is playing they keep cutting back to Tony Stark who’s making a drink, describing the best thing about each one of the Avengers. When he ends his little speech he looks off to the side and says “What do you have?” Loki tries to threaten him with his own power when Stark quickly replies with “Well we have the Hulk,” immediately cutting to a close-up of the Hulk giving a fearsome roar.
After we caught our first glimpse of “The Avengers,” the audience blew up with applause. Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, introduced the audience to Tom Hiddelston, Colbie Smulders (plays S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Maria Hill), Jeremy Renner, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson and Robert Downey Jr. Downey says a few words about how great it is to be there and then they proceed to replay the footage much to the delight of audience members.
“The Avengers” is currently shooting and will be released in theaters nationwide on May 4, 2012.
