If you’re a Marvel fan and you go to the annual San Diego Comic-Con then you know exactly what I’m talking about when I mean by the “Cup O’ Joe” panel. Every year chief creative officer at Marvel comics Joe Quesada gets up on stage and gives some pointers to the audience on how to break into the comic book industry. Along with that, he normally updates the crowd on what big events will happen with their favorite comic series within the next year. Whether fans like him or not, you can’t deny the fact that his panel is one of the staples for Comic-Con every year for Marvel fans.
When you think of the D23 Expo, you aren’t thinking of Joe Quesada and or the Marvel universe. Mainly that’s because most of us are still adjusting to the fact that Disney and Marvel are one in the same. Fans remembered this yesterday during the monstrous movie presentation that Disney threw at their fan-filled convention, but even more were pleasantly surprised to see Cup O’ Joe at the Arena. Granted, the show up was a little weak since there was no talk of there being anything Marvel movie-wise being shown at this event, but there were still a fair number of “true believers” who filled up some seats.
Before Joe Quesada stepped onto the D23 Expo Arena stage, we got a message straight from Stan “The Man” Lee himself. He sent us good vibes from his secret S.H.I.E.L.D. base where he was “protecting mankind.” After the end of his message we were shown a cool montage of video shot around the Marvel booth at the San Diego Comic-Con a couple of years ago. Once that ended, Joe Quesada stepped out and talked about his panel Cup O’ Joe and how he’d be changing it up for the D23 Expo. Instead of doing his normal talk about making it in the comic book industry, instead he ran us down a history on Marvel. He expressed his love for Disney and even treated fans to a cool video that showcased every single end-of-credits scene that’s appeared in every Marvel movie since “Iron Man.” He wanted to show off “The Avengers” footage we saw yesterday at the movie presentation but unfortunately they wouldn’t let him do so.
