The eastern coast of the United States was hit with a 5.8 magnitude earthquake Tuesday, unusual for that part of the country. Many buildings, including the Discovery Communications headquarters in Silver Spring, MD, were affected.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the headquarters were evacuated when the earthquake hit. “We evacuated and sent everyone home for a day…No reports yet of any damage or injuries,” said a Discovery Communications spokeswoman to The Hollywood Reporter.
Other businesses that evacuated were Comcast’s headquarters in Philadelphia and Steiner Studios in Brooklyn, New York. “Out of an abundance of caution, we did allow people to go home,” said a spokeswoman. She said there didn’t appear to be any injuries or damages, but they wanted to be cautious and considerate of their employees. A spokeswoman for Steiner Studios said the studio had to be briefly evacuated for precautionary measures, but the resident engineer verified that there was no damage.
