Scientists have found a new planet, except this one isn’t one that you would put in the category of “possible Earths”, unless you feel like living among diamonds is the only way to live.
According to The Huffington Post, scientists have found a planet completely made of diamonds. The planet was found 4,000 light years away from Earth, and is probably the remains of a dead large star.
“The evolutionary history and amazing density of the planet all suggest it is comprised of carbon,” said Matthew Bailes of the University of Technology in Melbourne to Reuters. The star, according to Bailes, is a “massive diamond orbiting a neutron star every two hours in an orbit so tight it would fit inside our own Sun.”
Even though the planet is made out of diamonds, don’t expect for it too look like a wedding ring. “I don’t know I could even speculate,” said Ben Stappers of the University of Manchester to The Macadonean International News Agency. “I don’t imagine that a picture of a very shiny object is what we’re looking at here.”
