If you were afraid of bugs already, you might not want to be reading this post.
According to the Mother Nature Network, giant wasps have been found on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi.
The wasp is being called the “Komodo dragon” of the wasp family due to its humongous size. The males of the new species can measure over two and a half inches, including its huge jaws which are, according to entomologist and director of the Bohart Museum of Entomology Lynn Kimsey, “so large that they wrap up either side of the head when closed.”
“When the jaws are open, they are actually longer than the male’s front legs,” she said. “I don’t know how it can walk.”
The asps only eat insects, but you really wouldn’t want to be around these wasps and upset them, because you can probably expect a world of pain.
Kimsey plans on naming the species “Garuda” after the half-eagle, half-human mythical creature that is an Indonesian national symbol. The wasp technically belongs to the genus Dalara.
