According to All Headline News, Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi has made it known through an audio message that he will not surrender.
The message, which was aired Thursday over Syrian television channel Al-Rai, also had a message for Gadhafi’s loyalists and supporters, telling them to fight against the rebels who have taken over Tripoli and are now intent on finding him.
“God is with us, and we are in our homes,” he said in the message. He also said that Libyans are ready to martyr themselves for the cause. “We are ready for a long, drawn-out war. [The rebels] will not be able to fight a long war. They will retreat, day by day…Attack them everywhere.”
The airing of the message has another political significance; the airing of the message coincided with the 42nd anniversary of Gadhafi’s coup that removed King Idris from power and brought Gadhafi to power over Libya in 1969.
Gadhafi’s son, Saif, also released a message to supporters. His message, aired Wednesday, said that Gadhafi is well and plans to retake Green Square from the rebels.
However, Gadhafi’s support is waning quickly. Gadhafi’s former prime minister, Al-Baghdadi Al-Mahmoudi, said to Al Arabiya that he was giving support to anti-Gadhafi fighters and Abdel Ati al-Obeidi, Gadhafi’s foreign minister, surrendered Wednesday night, according to council member Elamin Belhaj.
Currently, Gadhafi’s exact whereabouts are not known, but the rebels believe that the desert outside of Tripoli is where the leader, his son and intelligence chief Abdullah al-Senussi are hiding.
