If you’re a fan of “The Walking Dead” (even after the showrunner debacle), you’ll be happy to know that there will be a lot more zombie time on your television screen.

According to Entertainment Weekly, AMC will air a special 90-minute permiere of “The Walking Dead” Oct. 16. The season will have 13 episodes.

“The Walking Dead” has been in the news lately during its off-season, what with the drama over the switching of showrunners. ShockYa reported on the news when it broke in July.

Frank Darabont, the showrunner for the AMC series “The Walking Dead” was removed as showrunner unceremoniously. When he was at this year’s Comic Con, he gave no indication of his job being in jeopardy and instead talked about some of the improvements the next season would have.

“This year we have a room full of writers who now know the show as fans of it, having seen the first little half season, they came into the room going, ‘Wow, we get to do ‘The Walking Dead,”” he said, alluding to the decision to bring in a team of writers instead of using freelancers like they did for Season One. “The first six episodes, nobody knew what the hell we were doing…It was an unknown quality as a TV show.”

Glen Mazzara, who was brought in after the first season wrapped, is the new showrunner and was recently interviewed about the show by AMC. The interview doesn’t address the politics surrounding his new job.
