Technically, this should probably be under the “Movies” subheading, but I’m labeling this as a Daily Shock because I think I’m like everyone else in thinking that Mel Gibson’s career in movies was dead in the water.

According to GeekTyrant, Gibson and screenwriter Joe Eszterhas are working on an untitled film for Warner Bros. that will be a biopic of Jewish warrior Judah Maccabee. Maccabee, along with his four brothers and father, led the Jewish revolt against Greek-Syrian armies that conquered Judea in second century B.C.

Gibson is not officially on board as the director, but he has the first option. Right now, he is only in a producing and collaborating role.

According to GeekTyrant, Gibson had wanted to make this film and he was in discussions about the film, but then his relationship issues with his girlfriend, Oksana Grigorieva, took over.

This will be really interesting to watch develop, especially since the characters in the movie are Jewish–if you recall, Gibson said anti-semitic remarks after being arrested for drunk driving in 2006. It would seem like this is his attempt to get into people’s good graces again.

What do you think about this news? Would you go see Gibson’s movie? Give us your opinions in the comments section below.
