Another movie-themed “Daily Shock”: Diva superstar Whitney Houston is in talks to join “American Idol” winner Jordin Sparks and comedian/actor Mike Epps in “Sparkle,” a remake of the 1976 original film loosely based on the life of The Supremes, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The original film focused on the three Williams sisters, whose sudden rise from singing in their church choir pulls their personal lives apart.

According to the site, Sparks will play the main character, who is the talented group member. Houston is in talks to play her discouraging mother. Epps will play Satin, a stand-up comedian who becomes the husband to one of the sisters, getting her hooked on drugs.

This is not the first time Houston was involved with “Sparkle”; several years ago, she was set to be the producer of “Sparkle” when the remake project was originally going to be taking place at Warner Bros., but the star of the film was singer Aaliyah, who died tragically in a plane crash. Houston will serve as executive producer for this incarnation.
