The ratings for “Glee”‘s Season 3 premiere was surprisingly low. In fact, according to tvbythenumbers, the show went down a whopping 32% from last season’s premiere. One would expect that for a juggernaut like “Glee,” ratings would be exponentially high, so why the lack of viewers? Well, Entertainment Weekly has an article that states some of the ratings drop-off might be attributed to viewers growing tired. There’s an argument in that sentiment, to be sure.

During the second season, there has been a lot of vitriol growing, due to the theme weeks that didn’t work too well, the uneven storylines, Chord Overstreet not returning and other post-season drama (first saying that half of the cast won’t be returning, then saying they will), and the show shifting from kids who didn’t fit in working together to become popular to an after-school special lesson-of-the-week set up. And that’s not even accounting for the feeling that episodes became more about selling iTunes than actually having songs that fit into the episodes.

Does this mean that “Glee”‘s headed toward a downturn? No. If the trend of low ratings trends throughout the season, then we can discuss some things. But if “Glee” is getting parodied by “Sesame Street” (below), it’s still hugely popular. No worries, Gleeks!
