It looks like “Thor 2” might be in good hands. After Kenneth Branagh’s decision to step away from filming the sequel to the Marvel summer blockbuster, Marvel has been searching for someone to fill the role of director, and they have landed on Patty Jenkins, the director of 2003’s Oscar darling, “Monster.”

According to Entertainment Weekly, there hasn’t been a formal confirmation from Marvel about hiring Jenkins, but sources close to the film are saying that talks are happening between the director and the studio.

EW learned from Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige that “Thor 2” would “take Thor literally to other worlds.” He said the film will show more of The Nine Worlds, the planes of existence in the universe of the “Thor” comic book.

Jenkins also directed the critically-lauded pilot of “The Killing” and episodes of “Entourage” and “Arrested Development.”

You can read the full rundown on the development at EW.com. In the meantime, what do you think about Jenkins’ involvement with “Thor”? (Personally, I think this could be very exciting for the franchise.) If you didn’t really love the first “Thor,” do you think hiring Jenkins will up the ante?
