Actor Steve Carell will be leaving the comedy behind for his latest role in the dark retelling of Foxcatcher, Variety is reporting. The former ‘Office’ star has signed on to appear in Moneyball director, Bennett Miller’s latest venture, the true murder story of Olympic gold wrestler David Schultz. Miller has been working on the movie for the last four years. Carell, who just finished up on the flick ‘Seeking A Friend of The End Of The World’, will appear in the eery and dark feature that chronicles a “paranoid schizophrenic and air to the du Pont chemical fortune”, John du Pont, who built “a wrestling training facility called Team Foxcatcher.” Befriending wrestler David Schultz, du Pont in a surprising twist, shot and killed Schultz back in 1996 inside his mansion.
The seventy-two year old millionaire just died last year in a Pennsylvania prison, with a motive that will remain a mystery. Production on ‘Foxcatcher’ will kick off this coming March 2011. Currently Steve Carell is filming on the 2012 movie ‘Great Springs Hope’ alongside actress Meryl Streep and Tommy Lee Jones. The comedy drama follows “a middle-aged couple attends an intense counseling weekend to decide the fate of their marriage.” The film is being directed by David Frankel.
