Many people in America, myself included, are rabid fans of either “Sherlock,” “Downton Abbey” or both. As such, we fans have been frothing at the mouth to know when the aforementioned are coming back to PBS. Thanks to tellygraph.com, we now have some answers.

According to the site, PBS has released the premiere dates for the second seasons of “Sherlock” and “Downton”. “Sherlock” is expected to premiere in the spring of 2012, probably around May. Ugh. But, for “Downton” fans, the wait ends a little earlier, since Season 2 of “Downton” will begin January 8, five months after the show has restarted in the U.K.

There will also be some new shows coming to Masterpiece Theater’s “Masterpiece Contemporary” line of shows–“Song of Lunch” and “Page 8.” Both of these shows will be premiering this fall.

“Downton Abbey” is a drama set in the years leading up to World War One, centering around the Crawley family and their servants starring Maggie Smith, Hugh Bonneville, Jessica Brown Findlay, Laura Carmichael and Michelle Dockery. “Sherlock” is a 21st century reinterpretation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s beloved “Sherlock Holmes” detective series of stories starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman.
