Chalk up another score for “The Lion King”, According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film has become number 10 on the list of all-time top grossing films domestically.
According to the article, “The Lion King” has made a total domestic gross of $408.2 million, beating out “Spider-Man”‘s $403.7 million and “Tranformers: Revenge of the Fallen”‘s $402.1 million. Also, within the two weeks of its re-release, “The Lion King” made $79.7 million, more than anyone thought it would make during its two weeks. Worldwide, it’s made $98.7 million.
Disney’s executive vice president of distribution Dave Hollis said the reason for the film’s success is because of the characters and story resonating with audiences. “‘The Lion King’ is a timeless classic whose characters and story are as beloved today as ever,” he said, and went on to say that the film breaking in to the top 10 cements the fact that quality entertainment is the key to success.
I’ve already said I’m a fan of “The Lion King,” so I’m glad it’s doing so well. As far as I’m concerned, it deserves every penny it’s made. And I’d have to agree with Hollis: if a movie has a solid story that has real heart and emotion, it will always be successful.
