Our iTunes playlists were in desperate need of some tunes from Thomas Neptune. Lately, most of the new music we had been listening to either had impeccable instrumentals or inspiring lyrics, but never both. Finally, we are given the two for one deal with Thomas Neptune’s debut EP, “Down To Earth”.
You shouldn’t worry if you are a diehard music fan and this name sounds unfamiliar to you. We were right where you were just a day ago. So, here’s a brief tale of Thomas Neptune. The singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist was born in Wooster, Ohio and moved to Los Angeles, after graduating from Miami University. Since arriving to Hollywood, Neptune had the opportunity to play drums for Thelma Houston, create an extensive catalogue with rising Mighty Generation Music Publishing, collaborate with Grammy nominated prouder, Luigie Gonzalez, sell out shows all over LA as a headliner for BMI showcases and was most recently added to LaFamos’ Pr and Branding roster of artists. We just have to mention one more achievement. Neptune won the John Lennon Songwriting Contest in 2011 for the Pop Music Category with his track, “Unbreakable”. So, we guess we can say he is a “been there, done that” kind of artist.
Neptune released his EP, “Down To Earth” this past summer. Co-producer and engineer, Mike Greier (BOB, Cee Lo Green and Justin Bieber) worked alongside Neptune to put this EP together. Boy, do they make a good team. Each of the four tracks off of “Down To Earth” can hold its own as a lead single of just about any pop album. What we appreciate the most about Thomas Neptune’s pop-esque songs is that they are not tarnished with party theme lyrics, which is quite common nowadays for tracks in that genre. “Good Times”, “Unbreakable”, “We’re Beautiful” and “My Ohio” tell relatable stories that will have you listening from start to finish without reiterating the words, “put your drinks up”.
