New Regency will produce a new cop drama that will be shepherded by Director Allen Hughes, best known for his work with The Book of Eli and Dead Presidents. Aptly titled ‘Broken City’, the upcoming action flick will star Mark Wahlberg (Shooter, Date Night), Russell Crowe (Cinderella Man, The Man with the Iron Fists) and actress Catherine Zeta-Jones (Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas, Rock of Ages). The story, according to Deadline, follows Wahlberg as a “detective hired by the mayor to see if his wife (Zeta-Jones) is unfaithful. When her cheating partner turns up dead, the private eye devotes himself to exposing the mayor and uncovers a self-dealing real estate scandal involving the politician. Crowe plays the mayor.”
Although it hasn’t been confirmed, Broken City will most likely be filming in New York, where the story takes place. The movie is scheduled to be produced by Wahlberg, with Hughes, Steven Levinson, George Furla and Randall Emmett. The script was penned by Brian Tucker, who looks to be making his big screen debut in the writing arena. 20th Century Fox will reportedly distribute, with the movie rolling out in theaters sometime next year.
