Michael Rapaport took part in a “Twitterview” with the press Tuesday, in which he explained more about his reasoning for creating his documentary on A Tribe Called Quest, “Beats, Rhymes & Life,” as well as what he loves most about the influential rap group.
The group, wrote Rapaport, had a great impact on his life he first got the idea to create a documentary around them when he went to the group’s “last show” in 1998. Because he knew the members of the group well, he was able to paint an in-depth portrait of the members, their feelings toward rap, and their thoughts on the group. “This [project] just came to me at a time I was ready and [with] the subject matter I am passionate about,” he tweeted.
He tweeted that he named his film after the group’s fourth album because he felt it was right for the film. “[I] [t]hought it was appropriate,” he tweeted. “[I] [w]anted people to know exactly what they were going to see.” When asked by OkayPlayer if he felt the fact that the album highlighted the band’s break-up influenced his choice to use the title as the title of the documentary, he tweeted, “Looking back I don’t think so. I liked that title and thought it was good.”
When asked about making more movies after the success of “Beats, Rhymes & Life,” Rapaport tweeted, “[H]aha, maybe. [Documentaries] have to be made from compulsion in my opinion. [M]aybe. What group would [you] want next?”
Perhaps you can answer his question. What group would you want to see Rapaport film next?
