One of the best parts of the great film “Poltergeist” is when Steve Freeling (Craig T. Nelson) yells at his boss, “You moved the headstones but you left the bodies, didn’t’cha! You only moved the headstones! YOU ONLY MOVED THE HEADSTONES!” Classic. It’s also one of the reasons why I’ve never gotten over the fear of my house possibly being on top of dead bodies, the foundation keeping their souls from flowing away.

I don’t think I really have to worry about this (there has never been anyone saying our neighborhood is built on a sprawling graveyard), but you might have to worry about things such as souls haunting your house if you decide to buy one of the houses MSN Real Estate is offering up. These houses really do reside on or near graveyards.

One of the scariest houses out of the lineup has to be the fifth house, a large Victorian-era-looking house in Richmond, Virginia. It has Civil War headstones among the weeds of the home, and the house itself looks like Rose Red. If that’s not scary enough for you, there’s also a house that’s next to the Sleepy Hollow cemetery and a home that has a lady specter in flowing white robes, so there’s something for everyone, in a way.

You can view the slideshow here. Even though you might have to worry about things that go bump in the night, at least you wouldn’t have to do any decorating when Halloween comes around.
