When a female singer acts in a titillating way for the camera, there are several emotions that I run through, chief among those being boredom. To me, it’s pretty boring for a woman to act overtly sexual for the camera. I can’t speak for all men, but I’m sure it can get boring for men in general as well. There’s nothing left to the imagination.
Anyway, this tirade was inspired by Kelly Rowland’s latest music video for her new song, appropriately titled “Lay It On Me.” The music video treads the well-trodden path taken by quite a few of today’s “divas”: dress in scantily-clad clothing (one article of clothing always has to be a Lady Gaga-esque leotard with metal on it), play provocatively with strange objects (in this case, an innocent Slinky and an ELEPHANT), and be “fierce” with a bunch of topless male dancers.
The one good thing is that, for once, the man is the subject being objectified. And she can sing really well, so there’s that. Another good thing–people will want to watch it because sex sells, so basically my complaints are moot.
