Actor Ryan Phillippe has signed on to star in the fifth season of Damages. According to AceShowbiz and TV Line, the Cruel Intentions star is set to appear in a major role as “a corporate whistle-blower like Julian Assange who turns to Ellen (Rose Byrne) for help in his courtroom cause.” Phillippe hasn’t been seen in TV Land in a recurring role since his days on the soap opera One Life to Live back in the 90’s when he played the character Billy Douglas. Appearing mainly in movies, Phillippe has guest starred in the TV series Matlock, Time Well Spent, Chicago Hope, and most recently Nick Swardson’s Pretend Time and King of the Hill.
Phillippe will make his big debut in Damages when the series returns in the summer of 2012 on DirecTV. The show, that was previously canceled on the FX Network, but nabbed by DTV, stars Glenn Close, Rose Byrne, Tate Donovan, Ted Danson and Ċ½eljko Ivanek. Phillippe is also attached to the 2012 film from director Chadd Harbold, Revenge for Jolly!, Straight A’s with Anna Paquin and Luke Wilson, Carlos Bolad’s Tlatelolco68, and Chronicle from Jay Alaimo.
