It’s been ten years since an accident claimed the life of one of Katherine’s friends, and those involved buried a secret before she left town. Her editor gives her a new assignment: return to her hometown and cover the Mothman Festival. When she reunites with her old friends, the Mothman, a spirit of a murdered Native American chief that placed a curse on the town upon his death, arises to take revenge on those who have yet to pay for their crime.

Firefly’s Jewel Staite gets a lead role in a film…unfortunately that film is Mothman. It’s a safe enough film for children to watch as there are no real scary elements, gore, sex or profanity; and the Mothman reminds me of a CG version of the Yip-Yips from Sesame Street. The performances by the actors seemed reluctant and a bit repressed. The script was pretty dry, with a predictable plot; the ending was hokey and disappointing.  The fact that the Mothman can only come through to the real world on reflective surfaces was pretty lame.  I could see many reflective surfaces throughout the film where he could’ve wiped out a hell of a lot more people – why wait until the end? Nobody else in the whole town has a mirror in their house? They could’ve saved a few bucks by not making so many CG moths, but they were pretty to look at.

There are no special features on the disc other than English and Spanish subtitles. Besides the CG, the only other positive point I can give is that it’s short.  It’s a “nothing to watch on a Saturday afternoon and I wanna kill some time” type of movie.
