I don’t know anyone who doesn’t like Doris Day. You can’t watch her movies and still feel grumpy afterwards. I’m a big fan of Doris Day, so I’m glad to see Day get her due in the form of an award.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Los Angeles Film Critics Association will give Day a Career Achievement Award.
Day is probably best known for her rom-coms from the 1960s–“Pillow Talk” (for which she received a Best Actress nomination from the Academy Awards) and “That Touch of Mink” being two of the most popular of those types of films in her repertoire along with “The Pajama Game” and “The Tunnel of Love.” She’s also known for her family-friendly films like “Please Don’t Eat the Daisies” and “With Six You Get Eggroll,” But, if you’re a real fan of Day, you’ll know that she was also in Alfred Hitchcock’s “The Man Who Knew Too Much,” drama “Love Me or Leave Me” and comedy-thriller “Caprice.”
The Academy have yet to give Day an honorary Oscar, why I don’t know. That’s a gross oversight on the Academy’s part. But at least Day will get recognized for her career by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association, who will meet to vote on their choices for the best films of 2011 December 11.
