Google is celebrating Halloween with a new video doodle that features employees of the search engine carving six enormous pumpkins. The video doodle, which replaces Google’s official logo on its homepage, spells out the search engine’s name on the pumpkins.

The 41-second time elapsed video shows the employees passing back and forth as they carve the evolving pumpkins, one of which weighs 1,298 pounds, and which are propped on bales of hay. The video begins with six people, but more people, including some in costume, appear. Some of the costumes include a Santa and Google’s green android bot.

The video, which starts in the morning, ends at night, with the pumpkins being (seemingly) lit by candles. The pumpkins were actually lit by light bulbs that were attached to a flicker box, which simulated the candlelight.

The Google employees spent an entire day carving the pumpkins, during which they hoped they wouldn’t collapse on top of them, according to a “behind the scenes” video the search engine also released. One of the employees said “A regular pumpkin is about human head size, and this is much, much larger…Instead of feeling in control, you think that at any given time this could potentially consume you.”
