Sopranos star James Gandolfini could be joining the comedy flick ‘Burt Wonderstone’. The former crime boss, who has been seen recently in ‘Where The Wild Things Are’ and ‘Welcome To The Rileys’, is said to be in talks to star in the Don Scardino directed picture. If Gandolfini commits, he would play a wealthy casino owner who hosts shows performed by actor Steve Carell’s character, one “half of a once-successful Las Vegas magic duo,” who must “reunite to square off against a hot shot street magician (to be played by Jim Carrey) whose tricks are often dangerous.”
‘Burt Wonderstone’ was penned by Bones star John Francis Daley and writer Jonathan Goldstein, the team behind ‘Horrible Bosses’, with the help of Jason Reitman. Aside from a possible James Gandolfini, Steve Carell, and Carrey, the female lead role is said to currently be nailed down to either Sarah Silverman or Olivia Wilde, per Variety. Filming will reportedly kick off in January.
James Gandolfini is also on board David Chase’s 2012 movie Twylight Zones with co-stars Jack Huston and Christopher McDonald, the crime drama Cogan’s Trade with Brad Pitt, Scoot McNairy and Ben Mendelsohn, the animated comedy Escape from Planet Earth, and Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close from helmer Stephen Daldry.
