The Sundance Channel has ordered its first scripted television series according to Variety. The network has picked up six episodes of the drama series ‘Rectify’ from producer Mark Johnson of AMC’s awesome series Breaking Bad. The show comes from writer Ray McKinnon and chronicles a death row inmate from Georgia who finds himself a free man after DNA evidence over turns his rape and murder conviction Putting his life back in order will prove to be difficult since there are some who still believe he is guilty.
Originally a project to be aired on AMC, Sundance nabbed the pilot instead with the hopes of scoring success after luck with their min-series ‘Carlos’ and the soon to air series ‘Appropriate Adults’. Talking about the newly acquired scripted fare, Sundance’s general manager, Sara Barnett, stated that with “so much interesting work being done in the scripted arena in TV we felt that the Sundance Channel should be a part of that work.”
Screen writer McKinnon’s killer script was also said to have been a huge factor for the network to take the plunge. A premiere date for Johnson’s ‘Rectify’ hasn’t been announced, but more news is sure to be on the way, as well as casting news.
