The FBI has been bought in by the U.S. Secret Service and U.S. Park Police to help the investigation into the shooting that occurred near the White House on November 11, 2011 Fox News is reporting. Law enforcement found multiple bullets at the scene, and the primary suspect in the case has yet to be apprehended.
The Secret Service has released a statement, saying police found a bullet that grazed the White House window. Another round was discovered outside the White House, and “an assessment of the exterior of the White House is ongoing,” the statement added. The FBI was called in, as it has an extensive expertise in evidence gathering.
The 21-year-old suspect, Oscar Ortega-Hernandez, has an arrest record in Idaho, Utah and Texas, and is believed to be mentally ill. Park Police obtained an arrest warrant for Ortega-Hernandez after they found an AK-47 rifle in an abandoned car following the shooting. The warrant is for a felony charge of carrying a dangerous weapon. He is believed to have stayed in, or near, Washington, D.C, following the shooting.
President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama weren’t at the White House at the time of the shooting, as they were in California. The news of the bullets’ discovery was announced shortly after President Obama landed in Australia.
