MTV deserves much more thanks than it has been given lately. Yes, the channel’s music video content has declined since the 80s, but the supplier gives exactly what the demander demands. You should project your disapproval to those around you, the MTV audience, for giving you numerous 21st Century versions of the “Real World”.
There is at least one positive that grew out of the network’s lack of music video content, the desire of bands to “bring back” the original MTV videos. Kid Savant is the latest group to revive the 80s. The Brooklyn electro/indie band, which consists of frontman, Ryan Weisberger, drummer, John Sullivan, guitarist, Kevin Pariso and bassist, Andrew Wendahl, started only a year ago and have recently opened for Teddybears, the Humans and DATAROCK at CMJ. The quarte’s debut EP, “Drop It On The Stereo”, hit stores October 24th via Blank Records and includes 5 tracks, “NaNa Never Ends”, “What It’s Worth”, “Drop It On The Stereo”, “4 Years” and “Walt”.
Kid Savant latest video, for the track “4 Years”, is simply a masterpiece. The psychedelic/pop synthetic tune is a journey within itself with whimsical beats beside ethereal vocals. Adding skydiving visuals to the track, the group takes the trippy ride above and beyond the quintessential 60s elements. It might not be the typical skydiving experience, take note of the pianos, chairs, lamp post, a tree, confetti and more, but how long can you be captivated by a person floating through the sky? Possibly a whole two minutes? Well, this video is about four minutes long and could even continue for a few more.
