NBC has given Bryan Fuller’s script for ‘The Munsters’ a pilot order, less than two weeks after receiving it, Deadline is reporting. Universal Television will produce the reboot of the 1960s show, which is being described as a visually spectacular one-hour drama.
Fuller originally developed the script for the new ‘Munsters’ re-imagining last season. It was one of the few the network kept when new chief Bob Greenblatt took over the network in January 2011. Greenblatt had the series redeveloped by his team, and when Fuller submitted a new outline in September, it was well received. NBC is reportedly thinking of making the new ‘Munsters’ a summer or event series. The series is in contention for a straight-to-series order with Gaumont International TV.
With Fuller’s trademark visuals, ‘The Munsters’ will also stay true to the archetypes that made the original 1960s series a classic. It will feature Grandpa Sam Dracula, who assembled Herman because he felt no man was good enough for his daughter, the sexy vampire Lily. Eddie, Lily and Heran’s only child, begins to display werewolf tendencies during puberty, which forces them to move to their famous home, 1313 Mockingbird Lane. Also included in the family is Lily’s niece Marilyn.
