Of course there’s no forgetting George Washington, All the Real Girls and Snow Angels, but, for the sake of this piece, think Your Highness and Pineapple Express plus children. Or, basically, raunchy adult humor with some kids on the side. Actually, raunchy humor, childish shenanigans and a surprisingly hefty dose of heart most accurately describes David Gordon Green’s most recent film, The Sitter.

Jonah Hill stars as Noah, a college dropout crashing with his single mother. When his mom gets the opportunity to meet a new guy, Noah’s thrilled. The problem? The only way his mom can go on this blind date is if the mutual friends find a babysitter for their trio of rather eccentric and troublesome kids. Then again, Noah isn’t the most mature guy either. Rather than just ride it out at the kids’ house, he opts to put them in their parents’ minivan and drive them into New York City to pick up some drugs for his not-really-his-girlfriend girlfriend.

With Green at the helm, Hill headlining and that brief synopsis of the film, it’s easy to just go ahead and assume The Sitter is straight vulgar comedy. Sure, the piece offers up the necessary dose of laughs, but what sets The Sitter apart from the lot is the fact that on top of the gags, you get a nice dose of drama, too. Of course, bridging the gap between the two tones was no easy task, but, in honor of The Sitter’s December 9th release, Green sat down to divulge all of his secrets from reassembling his loyal band of co-workers for the shoot to giving Hill’s improv ability room to breathe and much more. Check out all of the details on The Sitter below as well as a brief update on Green’s remake of Suspiria in the video interview below.
