Charlie Sheen’s new comedy series ‘Anger Management’ has been picked up by Canada’s CTV, Deadline is reporting. The network’s parent company, Bell Media, has confirmed the news, and the half-hour show is set to begin production in early 2012. The sitcom’s multi-platform roll-out and scheduling have yet to be released.
In an exclusive taped message that aired on CTV, the former ‘Two and a Half Men’ star said the Debmar-Mercury distributed show would be broadcast in Canada. “You seem like the nicest people in the world,” Sheen said. “But I know the truth. You’re holding in a lot of anger.”
In his anticipated return to television, Sheen will appear in the sitcom that’s loosely based on the Adam Sandler-Jack Nicholson 2003 film of the same name. On the series, Sheen will play an anger management therapist who may need more counseling than his patients. He unleashes havoc on the lives of his patients with his unconventional methods. The actor said he choose to appear on ‘Anger Management’ because “while it might be a big stretch for me to play a guy with serious anger management issues, I think it is a great concept.”
Phil King, the President of CTV Programing and Sports, said “With the pedigree behind this production, we’re confident this program will deliver to both viewers and advertisers alike.” Lionsgate President of worldwide Television and Digital Distribution, Jim Packer, said “Bell Media immediately recognized the show’s longterm potential, and we’re delighted that (Charlie) will be entertaining audiences for years to come on CTV.”
