A new vintage poster for director Lee Daniels The Paperboy has been released. Due out in theaters sometime this coming New Year, the first look features and older looking Zac Efron sitting shotgun across from Nicole Kidman with a devilish smirk. Matthew McConaughey is seen lingering in the backdrop, with a crazy looking John Cusack below the scene.
An interesting cast line-up, the new thriller follows McConaughey in the role of Ward James, a reporter who returns home to Florida to investigate and save a man on death row. Efron plays his younger brother and sidekick. Efron is also the guy who decides to have an affair with the much older Nicole Kidman who is the pen pal of Cusack, the convicted killer. The Paperboy is based on the novel of the same name from writer Peter Dexter.
Also on board the movie is a cast line-up of actors that includes Scott Glenn, David Oyelowo, Adam Sibley, Katarzyna Wolejnio, and Beau Brasseaux. Read the more extensive synopsis of The Paperboy via Amazon below. Although it hasn’t been confirmed, it appears director Lee Daniels is following the novel’s plot closely.
“The sun was rising over Moat County, Florida, when Sheriff Thurmond Call was found on the highway, gutted like an alligator. A local redneck was tried, sentenced, and set to fry. Then Ward James, hotshot investigative reporter for the Miami Times, returns to his rural hometown with a death row femme fatale who promises him the story of the decade. She’s armed with explosive evidence, aiming to free–and meet–her convicted fiance. With Ward’s disillusioned younger brother Jack as their driver, they barrel down Florida’s back roads and seamy places in search of The Story, racing flat out into a shocking head-on collision between character and fate as truth takes a back seat to headline news.”
