Twitch is reporting that Dear John and In Time actress Amanda Seyfried has been offered a role in director Tom Hooper’s Les Miserable, as well as the young pop star Taylor Swift. While Seyfried is being courted to play the role of Cosette, the daughter of Anne Hathaway’s character Fantine, Swift is being eyed for the supporting role of Eponine. Both ladies were said to have been given official offers, with Seyfried reportedly now attached to the project.
Hooper’s decision to cast Seyfried is reportedly due in part to the Mamma Mia actress’ talents and experience with opera, while Swift’s vocals easily make her a shoe in as well. Scarlett Johansson, Evan Rachel Wood, and Glee’s Lea Michele were all said to have auditioned for the role, but in the end it looks like Swift will win out.
Les Miserable, the musical adaption, will be released through Universal Pictures with a screen play from writer William Nicholson. Check out the synopsis for the movie below that includes a cast line-up of Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Eddie Redmayne, and more.
“Jean Valjean, an ex-con, has transformed himself to become mayor and the owner of a factory. But when he is moved to help one of his former workers, Fantine, Valjean’s past is brought to light, and he is forced to abandon everything to run from Javert, the chief of police, dead set on bringing him to justice. Nine years later, Cosette, Fantine’s child, has been raised by Valjean and has fallen in love with Marius, a fighter in the French revolution (after whom another, named Eponine, also pines). With Javert on the hunt and a revolution tearing the city apart, in the end, everyone is forced to question what they’re willing to sacrifice in pursuit of love and justice.”
